About

Hello! My name is Katie, but most people call me by my last name, Rieger (it sounds like “eager,” but with an “R” in front of it). I care deeply about designing for positive impact, and it is what I have built my career around. I spend my free time organizing community events, illustrating, and racing bikes.

I am a digital product designer

I’m passionate about using design to leave the world a better place.

I have 9+ years of digital product design experience, the bulk of which has been spent in social impact tech.

These days, I’m based in LA, and I am the Founding Product Designer at Lumi.

Prior to Lumi, I designed software solutions for marine biologists tracking global fish populations, consumer apps for making eco-friendly lifestyle choices, social apps for queer women, and healthcare apps for genomics and pandemic response programs.

Some of my proudest work includes leading design for nationwide COVID-19 testing programs at Color Health during the pandemic.

I am an illustrator and cartoonist

I am self-taught, and I sell my work for fun.

My work includes custom-painted bicycle frames, greeting cards, calendars, and (someday) picture books.

I was recently selected for my first ever group art show in Los Angeles, presented by Smith and Parallels and Longitudes. The show was a fundraiser to preserve the Verdugo Mountains.

I have also done work for clients including Rapha and Allez LA bike shop.
