Progress Payments

How I leveraged the specific user needs of an untapped market to design a strategic feature intended to expand our TAM.

Overview

LayerUp is a fully featured CRM for small to mid-sized insulation contractors. As a pre-seed startup, we were looking to expand our TAM.

In new construction specifically, insulation projects are expensive and span multiple months. There is money tied up in materials and paying the crew, so in order to support cash flow, these companies need to request payments in phases.

Up until now, LayerUp only supported a down payment and final invoice – it did not support more than two payments for a job over time.

We identified an opportunity to support contractors in new construction, but in order to do this, our software needed to support progress payments.
